Life Is Beautiful

This weekend marks the first ever Life Is Beautiful festival held in downtown Las Vegas.  LIB includes two days of world class music including headliners such as The Killers and Vampire Weekend. There will be a Culinary Village housing world class chefs offering up some tasty food.  But it's not just music and food, there will be an arts element to the festival including acts from Cirque du Soleil performances from shows such as 'The Beatles Love',  'Mystere', and many other fine performances.  But that's not all! A learning element that provides talks from business people, including downtown Vegas' new king Tony Hsieh, creator of Zappos.  The weekend will be packed with locals and travelers ready to hear amazing sounds, eat great food, and be amazed.  Most of the downtown has been planned to be shut down and blocked off for the festival.  It will be interesting to see how the new festival will operate.  I know I'm excited to bounce around to and from all the different stages to see some great bands such as Haim, Cayucas, and Cults.

Here Some Sounds, Enjoy Some Logs

This Friday at Doug Fir Lounge Au Revoir Simone will be playing some dreamy electonic pop.  Any show at the Doug Fir is guaranteed to be good.  Downstairs offers a cool space decorated with log walls and a snazzy light up floor surrounding the bar.  You can sit cooly on the edges in a comfy booth or get out on the dance floor and bop around to some cool beats.  My personal favorite spot is sitting up at the bar.  Designed with a swanky aesthetic set in a wooded area, it offers a great spot to enjoy the night.

Create a Mood, All About Those Lights

Using dangling light bulbs is a simple yet creative way to set the mood and bring the perfect amount of light.  By placing them in dark corners to add the perfect touch of light or creating a dramatic pattern in the middle of the room, this lighting technique is sure to be noticed

These lights would be awesome to see at an event.  I see it used at a small, cool warehouse music show.  With these lights it creates a cool intimate feel with creative lighting.

Bunk Bar on the Saturday of MFNW brought in an intimate show with Sonny and the Sunsets.  The space filled in nicely as the evening progressed and created a calmer less hectic ambiance of MusicFest goers.  The lights above the stage were a nice touch and overall it was a great night. All the bands sounded great and was a perfect break from the crowds of MusicFest.

MFNW Mississippi Stuidos: Washed Out

Friday of MFNW at Mississippi Studios brought in the crowds of fans ready to see Washed Out. Bar Bar was busy serving the drinks and the fans were ready to enjoy the weekend.  Although extrememly packed, the space packed in the masses and didn't feel too crowded. Washed Out played in a great set and sold out the Mississippi Stuidos side.

Music and Drinks = Classic Portland

This week Portland houses Musicfest NW, a six day music festival of amazing sounds from bands  all over the country.  Scattered across various locations, each night MFNW will take over venues with incredible performances.  In addition to the main concerts, there will also be VIP parties of additional performances.  At Marmoset music, a local music licensing agency, will host Hott Summer Nights, an offical MFNW party.  The night will include a list of great music performances and an open house for the company's new office.  Needless to say, the party promises to create a memorable and enjoyable evening for all who attend.
